$1.5 billion Hwange Thermal Power Expansion Project in Progress Project to build the largest power generation plant in Zimbabwe, with maximum power of 1520 megawatts, being financed by Export-Import Bank of China Reported by Tasiyana Siavhundu in Zimbabwe 3 October 2019 – Gweru, Zimbabwe - Zimbabwe is currently in power turmoil and the country has reached high and unprecedented levels of load shedding. Locally generated electricity is unable to meet local demand and the power utility imports additional electricity from South Africa’s Eskom and Hydro Cahora Bassa of Mozambique. The electricity import bill has however been rising and this has been one of the sources of worry for a government whose fiscal space is in shambles. Kariba Hydropower Station, which is currently the largest power generation plant in Zimbabwe, is constrained with dropping water levels and not enough is electricity is produced.
